They believe that the health care industry has gone under severe change from covid with customers preference changing. To match this they have been using technology as a way to do multiple things like increasing the amount of diagnostics that they offer or making contacts with customers easier. They have been taking their diagnostic services to tier 2 and 3 but have also been taking them to micro markets. They are also investing into building technology which is when the diagnostics will come back faster for complex tests and they will also be more accurate. It’s this commitment to science and technology that has allowed metropolis to keep their position as a leading player despite all the competition. They offer a range of 4k plus laboratory tests. Currently they are trying to deepen their presence in the tier 2 and 3 cities. The 4 key differences that separate metropolis from its competitors are a conclusion diagnosis which is basically their big menu of a lot of diagnostic services and the accuracy and the speed that they get their diagnostic back from. Customer centricity is also a thing that metropolis thinks is very important and they believe that it separates them from their customers. They also have the most presence around india in their field. Lastly they are also very consistent with their timings and hygienic practises. 

They believe that the healthcare industry and the market in total have made a comeback from covid and that the healthcare industry as a whole has gone under a serious transformation because of covid. They also think themself as one of the leaders int he healthcare division. Their specialised service is advanced tests which results come quickly. Covid has led to a shift of customer preferences with the customer wanting home diagnostics and customers also want wellness packages to make sure that if they have an illness it can be found in their early stages. To respond to this they have introduced affordable wellness package that meet the needs of the customer. They continue to deepen their presence through distribution networks. The realise the importance of tech in the diagnostic area and are trying to tie their science expertise with tech to enable more diagnostic for their customers. They believe that the diagnostics business will be a key contributor to the healthcare industry as their is an increase in a lot of things such as life expectancy, income, awareness of health, advanced diagnostics and stuff like that. In 2022 a lot of things happened that brought more competition into the diagnostic industry but people also started becoming more aware of their health. A lot of these competitors were asset light meaning that they had a digital platform and they come to peoples houses with their tool to do the tests. The believe at that time was that once the customers did it once they would get hooked and come back multiple times. Out of all the new competitors very few survived and almost none managed to get the addition of illness testing as doctors did not trust these brands. While others lowered their prices to meet the demand, metropolis was able to stay on the same price and still get their sales. There was a decline in growth and profitability as soon as covid was considered over but since their was so many new players in the industry they were not able to pin point why it fell. Pricing is not a concern for them as they have a very strong brand name and have built their business on quality of product instead of just cutting pricing like a lot of the competition did. The only have a 15 percent market share so their is a long way they can grow. Their Pune and Mumbai business grew fast and it is their primary business. Their specialised and premium wellness segments are the fastest growing. They have partnered up with a company in Delhi which is where Dr Lal Pathlabs has a very strong position. They recognise the importance of technology but the think that it has dipped compared to covid times and now really its just used to enhance customer experience so to face this they think that network expansions is just as important as investing in tech. They are going to combine the 2 of their goals by making an app which will help in expansion and it will help in investing into tech. Approximately 6 percent of india is sick at any given time but because of covid people are becoming more and more health conscious which opens up the rest of the 94 percent of India. Metropolis 3 is the stage that they are currently in and they believe that his is the stage that will set the company up for success. Going forward they have 5 main goals which are Expanding their distribution network, Focusing on wellness training, Building scientific brand leadership, Focusing on specialised test menus and Strengthening their IT infrastructure.

A few of their strategies are truhealth checkup plans which focuses on monitoring and controlling the inner health of a customer. The target population for this is the 94 percent that is not Ill as it helps to diagnose those people incase they have an illness. Their second strategy is expanding their network through specific locations in both their main territory and trying to get into other countries. Their 3rd strategy is to strengthen their home visits program through upgrades in their app. Indias healthcare segment continues to be one of the fastest growing segments with the growing concern of health. Furthermore the government has said that India is to became a health care hub. Indias diagnostic sector is supposed to forecast a CAGR of 24 percent. Major growth drivers for the industry are Increasing Income levels which itself leads to more awareness of health. Government policies to since the government tends to help the healthcare sector and lastly the public private partnerships which while metropolis does not really do is going to be a growth driver for the industry. 

Summary

Metropolis iOS a leading medical diagnostics company. They offer more then 4000 tests and are in the top 1 percent laboratories for quality assurances in the world. They have presence in over 20 countries but have a loyal customer base mainly in the south and the west. They have illness testing also and they offer best in class pathology diagnostics. They are also one of the more trusted brands as they build themself up using quality and science instead of just cutting prices.

Personal thoughts. 

I think Metropolis is better than Dr Lal Path labs for a few simple reasons. 1. Dr Lal Path labs talked about cutting prices when the competition became very high but metropolis did not need to cut prices because they have a better brand name. Number 2 I think metropolis has more presence in India compared to Dr Lal Path lab. I also think that metropolis offers more test and that they have their structure a bit more planned out then Dr Lal Path lab.
